Learn maths through English

http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/numbertime/index.shtml

I´m really surprised with the resources I find in this web page related with maths. I think these resources are very useful to work in first and second classes of Primary school. They are wonderful to work numbers in these classes because you can print out a piece of paper where you can see some cutouts, you have the number, for example number five, and five apples. Of this form you can work with your pupils the shape of number five, the written shape, and its equivalence in things. That is fantastic because children need to see how many apples, oranges... are five, they need to see what´s the meaning of five. Number five is a picture, five picture means nothing, it´s an abstract representation. Children need to touch and see five things to manage relate with the five picture.

I think this resort is wonderful to work maths in class, it´s really nice for teacher and like ampliation exercises at home, like homework. They are really useful for bilingual school, and non bilingual school too.

If you click in Add and take away you find a lot of exercises to work maths with children at school and at home. Vocabulary is really simple and easy and, in my opinion, is properly for children between four and eleven years old. Exercises are easy but very useful to first and second classes of Primary school. Children work substraction and addition. I realize that you can work English comparative and some words related with this topic using this resort.

In Watch Addem, we can see some short videos. In my point of view, these are very interesting to work listening at school. Vocabulary is easy, but I have to tell you that I consider this videos better for third and fourth of Primary school. In whatever case I think that they are some wonderful resources to train listening.

Songs are useful to work listening and maths in English.

But I´m definitely surprised with this web page because it includes an explanation for parents and teachers of all the games and activities that appear in this place. I think that is really nice for all of our. I like so much the clues for teachers and  parents to work with theirs resources at school and at home.

Handicrafts and recipes in BBC

Surfing in Internet I find this resort that, in my opinion, is very useful to learn English. It can be used for teachers and parents. The web page belongs to BBC, and this company considers the games that they suggest appropiated for children between four and eight years old. I clicked in Micky Maker, she proposes that you click in whatever you can see in her bench, when you click some instructions appear to build this object. You can see a woodland game, a ladybird, some toffee apples, some peppermint leaves, finger puppets and a do-to-dot game.

When you click in whatever thing that Micky Maker has on her bench, the web page gives you the possibility to print out the instructions for building the object. In cases like toffee apples and peppermint leaves you print out the recipes.

In my opinion is a very good resort to work English at home, at school or wherever you want. It is nice to motivate children, to make cooking recipes and handicrafts. Vocabulary is easy to primary children and you can always use a dictionary or draw on the blackboard some pictures that help your pupils.

Activities are easy and very good explained, I think that children haven´t any problem to make them. It´s important to know that you have to download Macromedia´s Flash and Shockwave Players Plug-in to get into the rest of resources because if you don´t have this program you can´t go into the others animals.
